Presentation Day

The 2017 season will finish with Presentation Day on Sunday 10th of September. This day provides an opportunity to gather as a team for one last time and celebrate the many achievements of the season.

This year, we invite all teams to gather as a year group in our social room in the Pavilion. We have attached a schedule so that you can see the start (and finish time) each year group has been allocated. Each year group will have a 40 minute time slot, allowing for:

  • Welcome by a Committee Member
  • Coach’s Presentation
  • Distribution of Medals and Trophies, Team Photos, Player Yearbook and Canteen Vouchers
  • Thank you / Close by a Committee Member
  • Club Song – Belt it out together one last time so get your videos ready parents!

For year groups that have four teams, use 10 minutes each as a guide, whereas year groups that have three times (or less) will have more time.

It’s going to be really important that players (and parents) are all sitting down quickly so that presentations can get underway without delay. The room will be set up so that players will be closest to the stage and parents will be at the back of the room. Committee members will be available to assist you throughout the day should you need anything.

The Canteen will be open for each player to redeem either a hot dog OR a sausage in bread and a can of soft drink OR bottle of water.

If you would like to stay at the grounds with your team, you’re most welcome, however please note that presentations will take place in the social room until 3:45pm, so as not to interrupt the presentations we will open the change rooms for toilet access.

We’re looking forward to a great Presentation Day with you all.

Go Ashy!

Club Night - Lagastes Medal Round

We have a very special round every season dedicated to one of our former players who very sadly passed away at a very young age.

Round 12 is dedicated to Daniel Lagastes, former player and much loved member of the Ashy Redbacks. For those of you who may not know Daniel’s story, we would like to share it with you on behalf of his loving parents, Joanne and Marty.

In July 2006, Daniel passed away after collapsing at home after returning from a run. He was 14 years old. The Daniel Lagastes Medal Round was created in memory of Daniel, an accomplished footballer, cricketer, and model student who left a legacy defined by intelligence and perseverance, showing many outstanding qualities on and off the field. A student of De La Salle College and a loyal Redbacker, Daniel’s family, brother’s Harrison and Joel and parents’ Marty and Joanne, are still very much a part of the Ashy family. The family still appreciate the amount of support bestowed on them by the Club, where Daniel’s wake was held, during this very difficult time.

“We have always appreciated the chance to talk about Daniel because we never want him to be forgotten – and he never will be. What happened was difficult to deal with but he was around for 14 years and he achieved so much in that time. We celebrate his memory and his legacy.” - Marty Lagastes

Marty and his family attend the U15 games in Round 12 and they choose the player they feel is representative of the Lagastes Medal. Please join us on Sunday evening 23rd July from 5.30pm where we will announce the U15 recipients (Boys & Girls) of the Daniel Lagastes Medal.

Team Photos

Here are some special Instructions to players, families, team managers and officials:

Players/Families:  Please arrive 5 minutes early and enter via rear door off car park. As we are running to a tight schedule, unfortunately we're unable to wait for late arrivals.  Any players who are unavailable for the photo, will have their name included in the player listing. There are to be NO PARENTS in the room at any time (even to take a quick photo). Only Officials and players allowed.

Please wear RED Shorts and have your football boots polished clean. When you are waiting for your turn, it is important that you keep the noise down. It’s tricky for the photographer to hear you and it’s distracting for the team that are getting their photo taken to look their best when there’s a mini party happening outside the club room!

Team Managers: Please line up your players in height order – tallest to shortest BEFORE they enter the room. Once the photographer has set up the players, she will take a photo on her or your mobile and will require you to write down their names in row order i.e. officials, back row, middle row, front row, etc...– a sheet will be provided at the time.  Please ensure NO parents are in the room.

Officials:  please wear your new Ashburton Community Bank ‘Officials’ Ashy polo (if you have one), otherwise you will be supplied with Ashy gear for the photo. Note, we hope to have all new sizes in stock this weekend so let Hugh or a committee member know if you need to collect polo’s for your team. As best as you can, please dress in BLACK trousers / pants / jeans for consistency. Despite what the weather is doing in the club rooms, no jackets please, the photo won’t take long to shoot! You may have up to 5 officials in the photos – no more.  It is up to you to decide who these will be.

To make it fair for everyone, please keep to this format so the evening will run smoothly #GoTiges

We're not sure who will be visiting us but if you're a Tigers supporter, it doesn't matter, they're all stars ;) ✨

ANZAC Day

Join us at the East Malvern RSL at 6AM on 25 April 2017 to commemorate ANZAC Day by participating in the Dawn Service. This is a wonderful opportunity for our local community to stand beside ex-servicemen and women that have bravely represented our country in times of war.

Immediately following the Dawn Service, a breakfast will be provided for a gold coin donation.

Commencing at 8:30AM, please come along to passionately support our Ashy U15 Boys and U16 Girls as they battle it against clubs such as Camberwell Sharks, East Malvern Knights, Prahran Junior Football Club and Glen Iris Gladiators on neighbouring ovals adjacent to the RSL. Aside from the sporting prowess, there will be plenty of free entertainment for younger children to enjoy.

This is a wonderful community initiative that helps bridge the understanding between younger generations and the brave men and women who have gone before them, making the ultimate sacrifice whilst representing our country.

We will remember them.

It is a pre-requisite for all players to be in attendance at the Dawn Service in order to wear the Ashy ANZAC jumper and represent our Club at this event.

Marty Browne Fundraiser - Dinner and Golf Day

For those of you that may not have had the pleasure of meeting Marty, allow us to introduce you to him. Marty has been a passionate member of the Ashy Redbacks for many years and has always played an active role in supporting his children, Karly and Aidan, both on and off the field. He has been Team Manager for 4 years and a great friend to many within our Club and within Solway, his local school community.

Sadly, 14 months ago, Marty was diagnosed with stomach cancer and he has been bravely battling this insidious illness ever since. After a bout of chemotherapy, results in late December last year, have shown that the cancer has returned. Once again, Marty faces a huge battle to overcome this horrible condition.

Marty’s friends and fellow club members are hosting a Golf Day and Fundraising Dinner in an attempt to raise some funds for Marty, his wife Lisa, Karly and Aidan to enjoy a trip away and escape the stresses of cancer treatment.

Please show your support for one of our own in our local football community by attending the day or if you cannot make the event, donating much needed funds or a prize to be auctioned at the event.

On behalf of his friends and family, we thank you all for getting behind this wonderful family that needs our support and prayers.
